Only if you use original MIUI ROMs from (en.)miui.com

Flash the linked no-verity-opt-encrypt_x.x.zip file right after you flashed TWRP or a new MIUI ROM / version update to the device.
This prevents TWRP to be overwritten by the stock recovery.
